Lineage and general info
The rabbinical sages of old (some people posting online) state that Kosher Kush was originally called “Jew Gold,” but was thankfully changed to Kosher Kush at some later date. Seedfinder quotes the growers at Reserva Privada (part of DNA Genetics) as saying that “a group of Jewish kids in LA were running around with this great herb and calling it “Jew Gold,” and that they got a cut of the strain and started to grow it on their own.”
The growers at DNA Genetics, who describe it as “an amazing strain out of California” and “a stinky over the top strain with an average yield making all who smoke it feel blessed.” The exact genetics of the strain are unclear, but it is generally considered an OG-Kush derived strain.
The Kosher Kush strain is often described online as “the first commercial strain blessed by a rabbi,” though what this would actually mean from a Jewish law standpoint is unclear, and the story itself is a bit…odd:
The tale behind Kosher Kush, as told to [Adam, a business development lead with Canopy Growth Corp.] Greenblatt by DNA Genetics founders Don Morris and Aaron Yarkoni, goes something like this: sometime in the 2000s, Morris was hosting a house party. He’d picked up a tray of cannabis seedlings earlier in the day, and during the party he left the plants under a light in his bathroom. Later on, a freshly minted rabbi showed up.”
And she was also very much into cannabis, she loved cannabis. And being that she was newly ordained, she saw these cannabis plants and she was excited to bless them,” said Greenblatt.”
This sounds like a bit of a cannabis bubbe-meise, but what’s for certain is that the strain has repeatedly won cannabis contest awards, including top Indica at the 2012 High Times Cannabis Cup.
Fans describe a potent strain that hits like a velvet Hebrew Hammer, with a powerful, couch-locky body buzz and something of a cerebral high as well. It can help people who really need to relax or get a good night’s sleep, or who just want to take a load off at the end of the day, or take a long shabbat nap.
Kosher Kush is known for having sweet, earthy, and fruity flavors that some have called “the tastiest smoke on Earth.” It is also a remarkably pungent strain that can be spicy, herbal, and sour.
Now, do you need to be Jewish to love this incredible strain? Of course not, Kosher Kush is a strain that’s bound for universal appeal.

There are thousands of cannabis chemovars out there, and no real standards as to how to identify them — basically anyone can grow anything and call it whatever they want. In other words — there are better ways to choose a strain than on the name alone.

It shows that Kosher Kush is often tested with an average THC concentration of 18.5%, with limonene (0.4%) and myrcene (0.4%) as the most dominant terpenes.

Based on user reports from resources such as Leafly, the Kosher Kush strain tends to produce relaxation, sleepiness, happiness and euphoria. It may also cause dry mouth, dry eyes, and less often- dizziness. But really, marijuana affects people in different ways. Kosher Kush growing tips
According to DNA genetics Kosher Kush should take 9-10 weeks to grow and “is easy to grow for the beginner and a challenge to master for the expert.”
The strain should yield around 1.8 ounces per square foot and according to DNA Genetics, it grows quite tall and “can handle moderate to heavy nutrients and has a great bud to leaf ratio making her easy to trim.”
The plant has good resistance to pests, molds, and mildews, and it prefers dry, warm weather. For the novice grower, Kosher Kush is a solid option that produces an ample yield of top notch herb without a ton of effort or expertise needed.
