Medical: illegal
Recreational: illegal
The cultivation, possession, and sale of cannabis are illegal in Liechtenstein for medical or recreational purposes. The country does allow for the medical use of Sativex and Epidiolex.
Possible penalties
Cannabis is illegal in every form in Liechtenstein. Despite being the most popular illicit substance, buying, selling, and consuming cannabis are criminal charges that can include jail time. Many cannabis charges in Liechtenstein are for personal consumption. Exact penalties are difficult to find, but punishments are harsher for growing, distributing, and trafficking.
Liechtenstein medical marijuana program
Liechtenstein does not have a medical marijuana program. Despite this, the country does allow the medical use of cannabinoid-based medications Sativex and Epidiolex.
CBD regulations
CBD exists in a legal gray area. There is no law or regulation banning it specifically, however, industrial hemp has been illegal in Liechtenstein since 2005. The country considers any product with over 1% THC to be cannabis, so in theory CBD products with less than 1% THC could be considered legal.
Liechtenstein is not part of the EU so the country does not have to recognize the 2020 EU Court ruling that determined CBD and its products were not narcotics.
Can you grow your own weed?
No, both cannabis and industrial hemp are illegal to grow in Liechtenstein.
Visiting Liechtenstein – can you buy or bring marijuana products?
Since cannabis is not legal in Liechtenstein, the only place to find flower or products is in the illicit market. Products found here are not regulated or tested and should be consumed at your own risk. The steep penalties for consuming cannabis mean it could be challenging to find a trustworthy source.
Do not bring cannabis into Liechtenstein or attempt to cross international borders with it as this can be considered drug trafficking.
