Overview

The name “XJ13” may bring to mind one of the most legendary, one-of-a-kind racing cars ever built, but if you’re more “Le Convenience Store” than “Le Mans,” then there’s a different XJ13 that may be more your speed.

A potent hybrid that produces a euphoric high and a citrusy bouquet, XJ13 is a strain that can make any car (or city bus) feel like a convertible roadster in the north of France. Here’s what makes it tick.

Lineage and general info

XJ13 counts among its parents two legendary strains — Jack Herer and G-13 Haze (a cross of G-13 with Haze). It is commonly credited to the Orange County Patients Collective, but like G-13, its origin story is a bit….hazy.

A well-balanced hybrid strain, XJ13 is known for having a sweet, spicy flavor that users report has hints of pine, lemon, mint, even cologne. This has led some users to consider it one of the tastiest strains out there.

The tasty flavor profile of XJ13 may explain why it has won a number of awards in the concentrate category at major cannabis competitions in recent years. It also won bronze for Best Sativa at the 2012 High Times Cannabis Cup.

The high is what you might expect — a nice body sensation and an energetic, euphoric, and creative high that can be a great pick-me-up. XJ13 is more of a daytime strain in that regard, but it’s named after a race car so this perhaps is not a surprise. So if you’re looking to put the top down and vape the day away (from the passenger seat), then XJ13 could be the perfect strain.

Cannabinoids and terpenes in XJ13

There are thousands of cannabis chemovars out there, and no real standards as to how to identify them — basically anyone can grow anything and call it whatever they want. In other words — there are better ways to choose a strain than on the name alone.

The chemical profile you see below is an average of laboratory tests for products called XJ13 — so it’s just an estimate of what you might find when you buy an XJ13 strain. It shows XJ13 often has a high level of THC (18.2% on average), terpinolene (0.6%), and limonene (0.45%). The scientific literature about this kind of combination is limited, but it may be associated with sativa-like effects (i.e. uplifting and stimulating).

How XJ13 affects you

Based on user reports XJ13 often produces happiness, upliftment, euphoria and energy. It may also cause dry mouth, dry eyes and more rarely paranoia and anxiety. But really, marijuana affects people in different ways. The two main factors are your own biology (your endocannabinoid system, metabolism, age, weight, etc), and the product you choose (including its cannabinoid profile and terpene breakdown, and the delivery method used).

XJ13 growing tips

XJ13 is considered a moderately difficult strain to grow, which grows high and requires a fair amount of trimming and maintenance to make sure things run smoothly. It prefers a warm, dry climate and can be grown both indoors and outdoors.

XJ13’s flowering time can be as little as seven weeks, and it is known for producing large yields and for being resistant to mold, mildew, and pests.

The strain is often described as a clone-only strain, though seeds can be found online.

Parent strain G-13 Haze is a cross of G13 — one of the most legendary and mysterious modern cannabis strains — and Haze. Jack Herer, the other parent strain, has for years been a household name in cannabis, and is a hybrid that is known for producing an energetic high. Jack Herer has won a long list of cannabis awards, and is said to have descended from Northern Lights #5, Shiva Skunk, and Haze.

Seedfinder lists several strains that were bred using XJ13, including Strawberry Slurpee (a blend with Strawberry Banana), Sugar Kiss (a cross with DeadHead OG), and 13th warrior (a mix with Sour Tsunami), to name a few.
