Founded in 2013 as Tweed Marijuana, Inc., the Canadian marijuana company Canopy Growth describes its vision as “to be the number one cannabis company in the world.”
Canopy Growth is the largest Canadian cannabis company in terms of revenue and was the first federally-regulated and licensed publicly-traded cannabis grower in North America. In 2019, Canopy Growth acquired the US-based cannabis company Acreage Holdings, a deal that will only go into effect if marijuana is legalized on the federal level in the United States.
In June 2020, former Constellation Brands senior executive David Klein took over as CEO of Canopy Growth. Constellation Brands is responsible for producing and marketing brands including Corona, Modelo Especial, and Negra Modelo in the United States.
Canopy Growth supports and/or owns a number of cannabis brands including Tweed, Spectrum Therapeutics, DNA Genetics, CraftGrow, Tokyo Smoke, Doja, Van der Pop, and Maitri.
