Medical marijuana was legalized in Puerto Rico in 2015 and the island’s first dispensaries opened in 2017. Puerto Rico allows patients to possess and use marijuana in the form of flowers, creams, drops, pills, and tinctures, but smoking cannabis is not permitted.

The island does not allow cultivation for personal use.

How to Get a Medical Card in Puerto Rico

To receive medical marijuana in Puerto Rico, an applicant must first visit an authorized doctor, who will be responsible for submitting their recommendation to the local government. The patient must then register an account online with the Medicinal Cannabis Regulatory Board (MCRB).

The applicant must pay a nonrefundable fee of $25.
