Medical: No
Recreational: No
Cannabis is not legal in Turks and Caicos. The British Territory has neither a recreational nor medicinal program, and all cannabis possession is illegal. However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t find cannabis to smoke during your visit.
Cannabis in Turks and Caicos
Though weed is illegal, Turks and Caicos are still Caribbean islands, and there is a prevalent cannabis culture. It’s not unusual to smell weed or see people smoking during your visit.
While you may be offered weed while visiting other Caribbean islands, Turks and Caicos are hit or miss. Some local vendors will offer if they think you have the right “look” while other visitors report not seeing or being offered any weed at all.
Much of the cannabis consumed here is grown outdoors, and people used to legal, indoor-grown weed may find it lower quality. It is also fairly inexpensive.
Possible penalties for cannabis
Cannabis is considered a Class B drug in Turks and Caicos, and as such, sale and possession of the plant are illegal. Being convicted of cannabis possession carries a heavy penalty of up to 3 years in jail and/or a $40,000 fine. A conviction for selling cannabis or intent to sell is even heavier, with up to 4 years in jail and/or a fine of $50,000.
There are online reports of visitors being able to bribe the police to get away with having cannabis, but you should not depend on this.
Medical marijuana in Turks and Caicos
As of June 2022, Turks and Caicos has no legal medical marijuana program. There is no way to grow, sell, or possess cannabis or cannabis products legally.
CBD regulations in Turks and Caicos
There are no separate regulations that differentiate between CBD and THC. CBD products are still considered cannabis and are illegal. You won’t be able to find CBD products, like oils or tinctures, for sale on any of the islands.
Can you grow your own weed?
No, growing your cannabis plants is not legal in Turks and Caicos. Doing so could get you in legal trouble for possession.
Visiting Turks and Caicos – can you buy or bring marijuana products?
Don’t count on being able to find cannabis products in Turks and Caicos. You may be able to find bud from locals or be offered some by a vendor, but cannabis culture is not as strong on these islands as others in the Caribbean and there is no guarantee. The harsh penalties for sale and possession put many visitors off of cannabis during their stay. If you do find flower, consume privately and at your own risk.
You cannot fly with cannabis products into Turks and Caicos. Not only is the plant still illegal on the islands, but crossing international borders with cannabis products is never a smart idea.
