The world of cannabis is rapidly expanding. Dubbed by some as the new “green rush,” what was once a movement shrouded in mystery is now an endless source of discovery and hope for many. Everyone from governments to privately funded groups are working tirelessly to learn all they can about this miraculous plant.
While devoting more resources towards research is unquestionably a good thing, the volume of information emerging can be hard to navigate. The lack of a central regulatory agency can also make finding relevant information tricky even for the most seasoned consumers.

To help keep you informed and up to date, we’ve put together a list of 12 of our favorite cannabis books. In it, you’ll find everything from guides on using medical cannabis to novels on the history of the plant and much, much more. You may want to grab a mug of tea and have a good reading light at the ready.

The authors then dive into a deep examination of the various ways to ingest CBD, providing the pros and cons of each as well as detailing how to know what product to buy and suggested dosing information. Consider giving this a read if you or someone you know suffers from a chronic illness (or even just a simple case of everyday aches and pains).

5. The Cannabis Manifesto: A New Paradigm for Wellness
Social justice warrior Steve DeAngelo is the CEO of the world’s largest medical cannabis dispensary, the legendary Harborside Health Center located in Oakland, CA. He also happens to be the author of “The Cannabis Manifesto: A New Paradigm for Wellness,” a short volume that neatly sums up the history of cannabis as medicine and the prohibition that has surrounded it for decades.
DeAngelo strings together narratives from his time spent at Harborside along with a history of cannabis to present readers with an enthralling, nuanced look at the ways cannabis prohibition has convoluted our understanding of the plant. He invites readers to critically examine the way they think about cannabis, postulating the radical idea that there’s no such thing as “recreational” cannabis.
6. Cannabis: A History
Consider Martin Booth’s Cannabis: A History Paperback to be a must-read for the history buff in your life. This thoughtful, extremely well-researched book chronicles the history of religious, medicinal, and recreational use of cannabis throughout the ages. Booth opens with the origins of cannabis, focusing on the discovery of Cannabis sativa as a plant, and continues to meticulously lay out the evolution of the plant as it worked its way around the globe. Embellished with Booth’s signature hyperbolic style, the book reads as part textbook and part historical thriller. Captivating chapter titles like “Dora, Bebop and the Vipers of London” are sure to keep your eyes glued to the page at every turn as they bring the history of cannabis to life before your very eyes.

8. Terpenes: The Magic in Cannabis
Dr. Russo’s famous research paper, “Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects,” surprised people everywhere when it observed that cannabinoid-terpenoid interactions “could produce synergy with respect to the treatment of pain, inflammation, depression, anxiety, addiction, epilepsy, cancer, fungal and bacterial infections.”
Beverly Potter’s “Terpenes: The Magic in Cannabis” is one of the few books to expand on Dr. Russo’s work, going so far as to even earn a spot on the American Cannabis Nurses Association’s recommended reading list. Potter goes on to provide a comprehensive view on all things terpene related, breaking down what terpenes are and the history of terpenes before providing information on the therapeutic use of terpenes. It’s a great refresher on why it’s so important to consider the entourage effect when using cannabis medicinally and should be required reading for just about anybody who’s interested in learning more about these unique compounds.
9. Marijuana: Gateway to Health

The book chronicles the history of cannabis from its earliest conception and details the ways in which it’s been historically convoluted and socially demonized. It’s an extremely well-researched book that’s certain to change the way you view cannabis forever.

11. The Cannabis Health Index: Combining The Science of Medical Marijuana With Mindfulness Techniques To Heal 100 Chronic Symptoms and diseases

A former paramedic with a Ph.D. in alternative healthcare, Blesching weaves together insights gleaned from an incredible 1,000 studies in this sourcebook that details how medical marijuana can be used to treat over 100 different chronic diseases.
Part of what makes this book so great for readers is the helpful way in which it’s broken down. Blesching breaks everything down into condition-specific chapters, allowing patients to easily access the information they need at a moment’s notice. Recommendations for use are then paired with mindfulness-based practices on the side. It’s the epitome of all that’s good about cannabis from both an eastern and western perspective.
