What if you could get paid to consume cannabis and fall asleep?

It sounds too good to be true, but that’s exactly what a new study from People Science is doing. And you can participate from the comfort of your home (or bed!)

Join this cannabis sleep study from home

People Science, a technology-enabled clinical research company, is conducting a sleep study to explore the effects of CBD and CBN on sleep habits. All you need to participate is a smartphone and a wearable tech device that tracks your sleep (like an Apple Watch and Fitbit).

It sounds almost too good to be true, but it’s not – if you have trouble sleeping, would like to receive free cannabis products, contribute to the field of cannabis science, and wouldn’t mind receiving a little money for your time, then this study may be for you. All you have to do is sign up, see if you qualify, and check in on the app every day. The study is now open for registration and the deadline to apply is coming soon at the end of November, 2022.

Cannabis science is a growing field, but People Science thinks it can be done on a wider, more collective scale, so it’s bringing the research tools right to your phone.

How the study works

In just 3 weeks, you can add to the growing body of scientific research on cannabis. The study is looking for at least 44 people over the age of 21 who live in the US. Since the product being tested includes CBD and CBN but not THC, it can be shipped almost anywhere in the US.

Here’s how it works:

  • Fill out the screening questionnaire to see if you’re a good fit
  • Week 1: screening week for approved participants (baseline data)
  • Weeks 2 – 3: Consuming the product and sharing your experience with People Science

Shortly after you’ve qualified for the study, People Science will send the CBD/CBN tincture. All you have to do is take it every night for two weeks and wear your smartwatch or wearable device to bed. The data collected will be sent to People Science, along with the responses from a short daily questionnaire. No wires, diodes, or sleeping in a lab required.

And that’s it! The tincture is free to you and you can be reimbursed for a small amount at the end of the study, but the real motivator is being a part of the growing body of scientific research on cannabis in real-time (and getting a better understanding of how CBD and CBN affect your personal sleep cycle).

How you can help grow cannabis research

Plant lovers know cannabis has a myriad of health benefits, but changing the hearts and minds of the general public takes more than legalization – especially in the medical space. Having a foundation of well-tested, peer-reviewed human research studies is paramount to bringing cannabis into mainstream health and wellness, and making it easier for people to access the plant.

This is People Science’s second foray into collecting data on edibles and sleep. A 2021 study examined the effects of THC and CBD edibles on sleep but this time, the company is focusing on CBD and CBN.

THC is the most well-known and researched cannabinoid, but the plant has far more to offer than a singular chemical compound. CBN has been rising in popularity over the past few years, finding its way into more and more products. Marketing language suggests this cannabinoid can help you get serious shut-eye, but the initial research calls that into question. Some studies suggest that CBN may work better in conjunction with other cannabinoids like CBD – and this study will contribute to understanding whether or not this is true.

The study will track sleep duration and quality, as well as onset latency (how long it takes you to fall asleep) and your general quality of life while taking this product.

People Science: democratizing scientific research

People Science is a technology-enabled clinical research company that is pioneering cannabis, psychedelic, and alternative medicine research. Using a smartphone app and wearable tech, People Science is driving data collection from real people like you who use cannabis to improve their lives. This brings the research out of the laboratory and into the real world, which could have broad impacts on what is known and not known about real-world cannabis use.

This is People Science’s second crowd-sourced study, but it’s far from the last. In addition to hosting studies, the company is in the final stages of beta-launching its app, CHLOE, a personalized science app to help you find the right form of alternative medicine for your needs. Understanding plant medicine shouldn’t be confusing or controversial, and contributing to science shouldn’t be complicated, so People Science is making it easy.
